How to Redeem a Bitcoin Gift Card

Identify your format

"Bitcoin gift card" is used loosely for at least four different products. Getting this wrong is how people end up entering an Azteco code into an exchange search box and concluding the card is broken.

The universal process

  1. Identify what you are actually holding

    Four formats exist and they redeem completely differently. Read the issuer name on the card or in the email. If there is no identifiable issuer, treat it with suspicion before entering anything anywhere.

  2. Prepare the destination first

    Install or open the wallet you intend to use and have the receive screen ready. For Lightning, be ready to scan. For on-chain, copy the receive address to the clipboard — never retype an address by hand.

  3. Navigate to the issuer’s site by typing the domain

    Do not follow a link from the email, a search advert, or a message. Phishing clones of every major redemption page exist and they harvest codes in real time.

  4. Confirm the network before you paste an address

    For stablecoin vouchers especially, the network matters more than the coin. TRON, Ethereum, BNB Chain and Solana addresses are not interchangeable, and a wrong-network redemption is generally unrecoverable.

  5. Enter the code carefully and redeem in one sitting

    Copy and paste where possible. Do not abandon a half-completed redemption — some issuers mark a code consumed on submission, before the transfer completes.

  6. Confirm the balance arrived, then destroy the code

    Watch for the funds in the wallet. Once confirmed, delete the email or shred the card. A spent code is harmless; a code you think is spent but is not is a liability.

Format-by-format detail

Azteco vouchers

The simplest product in the category. There is no account on either side. Open a compatible Lightning wallet — Wallet of Satoshi, Blue Wallet, Muun, Phoenix, Breez and Zebedee are all supported — scan the QR on the voucher, and the sats arrive in seconds. Bitnovo vouchers

Bought at one of 40,000+ European retail points — Carrefour, Fnac, El Corte Inglés, Día — the code arrives on the till receipt. Redemption happens in the Bitnovo vouchers section: enter the code, choose the cryptocurrency, supply the wallet address, and the coins are sent from Bitnovo's system to the address you control. CryptoVoucher codes

Enter the code on the issuer's redemption page, then supply a wallet address. Codes bought directly are normally available within minutes; codes bought through resellers can take longer. Note that the coin is chosen at redemption rather than at purchase, so the recipient decides what they receive. Review here.

Binance Gift Card

A 16-character code redeemed inside the Binance app or website, crediting your exchange balance directly with no blockchain transaction and no network fee. Two constraints: both parties need a verified Binance account, and cards created after 10 April 2024 expire six months after creation. Once redeemed, the code cannot be reused. Review here.

When a code is rejected

  1. Transcription. Zero versus letter O, one versus lowercase L, and rn versus m account for most failures. Copy and paste rather than typing where the format allows it.
  2. Expiry. Check the issuer's window. Binance is six months from creation for cards after 10 April 2024; retail vouchers print a validity period; some resellers sell codes already close to expiry.
  3. Wrong issuer. An Azteco code will not work on a different issuer's page. Confirm you are on the right site.
  4. Already redeemed. If you bought from a reputable platform, open a support ticket with the order ID and purchase receipt. If you bought from a marketplace listing, a forum, or a stranger, the seller almost certainly kept a copy — see crypto gift card scams.
  5. Region or account restriction. Some issuers restrict redemption by jurisdiction. This is rarer than with brand gift cards but it does occur.

Safety rules

Non-negotiable

  • A code is cash. Whoever reads it can spend it — including whoever sees your screenshot.
  • Type the issuer domain yourself. Never redeem through a link somebody sent you.
  • Verify the network, not just the coin, before pasting an address.
  • Never share a code with anyone offering to redeem it "for you". That is the entire scam.
  • Redeem promptly. A code in an inbox is exposed to every future compromise of that inbox.
  • After redemption, confirm the balance arrived and then destroy the code.

Redeeming a Bitcoin gift card: FAQ

I have a card with a scratch-off panel. What do I do?

Identify the issuer printed on the card first, then go to that issuer's redemption page by typing the domain yourself. Scratch the panel, and either scan the QR code with a compatible wallet or enter the code manually. Azteco vouchers scan straight into Wallet of Satoshi, Blue Wallet, Muun, Phoenix, Breez or Zebedee.

Do I need a wallet before I redeem?

Yes, for nearly every issuer. Redemption sends coins to an address you supply, so the wallet must exist first. Set it up, verify you can receive a tiny test amount if possible, then redeem. The exception is an exchange-issued card such as Binance's, which credits an exchange balance rather than a wallet.

What if the code is rejected?

Check for transcription errors first — 0 versus O and 1 versus l account for most failures. Then check expiry: Binance Gift Cards created after 10 April 2024 must be redeemed within six months, and retail vouchers carry printed validity windows. If the code is genuinely dead and you bought it from a legitimate platform, contact support with the purchase receipt. If you bought it from a stranger, you have probably been defrauded.

Can somebody else redeem my code if they see it?

Yes, instantly and irreversibly. A voucher code is a bearer instrument, exactly like a banknote. Do not photograph it into a group chat, do not read it over the phone, and do not leave a scratched card on a table. This is the single mechanic behind most losses in this market.

How long does redemption take?

Lightning redemptions are effectively instant. On-chain redemptions wait for network confirmations — typically minutes, longer during congestion. Exchange-issued cards credit immediately because no blockchain transaction occurs. If nothing has appeared after an hour on-chain, check the transaction on a block explorer before contacting support.
