What it actually is
Start with the sentence that matters most, because the headline number does not convey it:
The CEX.IO welcome bonus is trading-fee credit. It reduces what you pay to trade. It is not cash, it cannot be withdrawn, and it cannot be used as capital.
That is not a criticism — it is how almost every legitimate exchange welcome offer in this industry works, and CEX.IO discloses it clearly. But "up to 1,000 USDC" reads like money, and a lot of people arrive at these promotions expecting a balance they can withdraw. They cannot, anywhere, and being clear about that is the point of this page.
The four tiers
The amount is set by the size of your first spot trade. Not your deposit, not your cumulative volume — the first trade.
| First spot trade | Fee credit | Realistic for |
|---|---|---|
| Under $500 | 10 USDC | Most people reading this |
| Over $500 | 50 USDC | Someone buying a meaningful position |
| Over $5,000 | 200 USDC | A larger first purchase |
| Over $50,000 | 1,000 USDC | Very few individuals |
Note the shape of that table. The headline figure of 1,000 USDC requires a first trade above $50,000. If you are buying $200 of Bitcoin to gift somebody, your tier is the first row: 10 USDC of fee credit. That is a real and honest benefit, and it is two orders of magnitude away from the number in the advertisement.
Every condition, listed
The full set, so nothing is a surprise
- Non-withdrawable. Fee credit only. It never becomes cash.
- Spot trading fees only. Not futures, not staking, not withdrawal fees, not capital.
- 14-day validity from the moment it is credited. Unused credit is lost.
- First spot trade only determines the tier. There is no second chance at a higher tier.
- Opt-in required. Claim on the promotion page before trading. A trade placed first does not retroactively qualify.
- Full identity verification required. Non-negotiable on a licensed venue.
- Country exclusions apply — including Belgium, Spain, the UK, China and the UAE. Check the current list.
- Partial coverage. If the credit does not cover a full fee, you pay the balance from your own funds.
- Claimed via the notification centre in the app after the qualifying trade — it does not appear automatically.
What it is worth to you
Here is the honest arithmetic, which no promotion page will do for you.
The credit's value is capped by the trading fees you would actually incur in 14 days. If you buy $200 of Bitcoin once and never trade again, your fee on that trade is a small figure — a dollar or two at typical spot rates — and that is the whole benefit. The remaining 8 USDC of a 10 USDC tier expires unused.
| You | Tier | Fees you would pay in 14 days | Actual benefit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buy $200 once to gift it | 10 USDC | A dollar or two | A dollar or two |
| Buy $1,000, trade a couple of times | 50 USDC | Several dollars | Several dollars |
| Active trader, $10,000 first trade | 200 USDC | Potentially the full credit | Up to 200 USDC |
| Signed up only for the bonus | Any | Zero, if you do not trade | Zero |
How to claim it
-
Open the promotion page and opt in
The bonus is not automatic. You have to claim it on the promotion page before you trade — a trade placed first does not retroactively qualify.
-
Complete identity verification
Full verification is required. CEX.IO is a licensed venue, so this is not optional and not a bait-and-switch — it is what the licence obliges them to do.
-
Check your country is not excluded
A specific list of countries is excluded, including Belgium, Spain, the United Kingdom, China and the UAE. Read the current list on the promotion page before you plan around it.
-
Place your first spot trade
The tier is set by the size of this trade: under $500 pays 10 USDC, over $500 pays 50, over $5,000 pays 200, over $50,000 pays 1,000. Only the first spot trade counts.
-
Claim the credit from the notification centre
The Trading Fee Balance is credited after the qualifying trade, and you claim it via the app notification centre. It does not appear in your spot balance because it is not cash.
-
Use it within 14 days
The credit expires 14 days after it is credited. Unused credit is lost. If you are not going to trade again inside a fortnight, the realistic value to you is whatever fees your first trade or two incur.

Why we link to this venue
Fair question, and the answer is licensing rather than the bonus.
Readers of this site are frequently buying crypto to give to somebody else. When an asset is a gift, being able to say where it came from matters more than it does for your own speculative position. CEX.IO publishes an unusually complete and checkable set of registrations:
- FinCEN-registered money services business, NMLS ID 1804170 — verifiable yourself on NMLS Consumer Access.
- Money transmitter licences across 34+ US states, each published with its number.
- Gibraltar FSC DLT Provider licence FSC0686FSA, from the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission.
- CySEC-authorised investment firm in Cyprus, and a registered VASP in Lithuania.

CEX.IO welcome bonus: FAQ
How much is the CEX.IO welcome bonus really worth?
Whatever spot trading fees you would incur in the next 14 days, up to your tier cap. For most people that is a few dollars to a few tens of dollars — not the headline 1,000 USDC, which requires a first trade above $50,000. It is fee credit, not cash, and it cannot be withdrawn.
Can I withdraw the bonus?
No. It is credited as a Trading Fee Balance and can only be used against spot trading fees. It never becomes withdrawable money and it cannot be used as trading capital. That is the single most important thing to understand before opting in.
Which countries are excluded?
At the time we checked: Belgium, Spain, the United Kingdom, China, the UAE, Algeria, Bolivia, Honduras, Mauritius, Morocco, Nepal, Palestine, Qatar, Sri Lanka, DR Congo, Uzbekistan and Western Sahara. Terms change — read the current list on the promotion page.
Do I need to deposit a minimum amount?
You need to place a qualifying first spot trade, and the tier depends on its size. There is no separate deposit bonus. If your first trade is under $500 you receive the smallest tier, which is 10 USDC of fee credit.
Is CEX.IO licensed?
Yes, and verifiably. CEX.IO Corp. is a FinCEN-registered money services business with NMLS ID 1804170, holds money transmitter licences across 34+ US states, and CEX.IO Limited holds a Gibraltar FSC DLT Provider licence, FSC0686FSA. The group also holds CySEC authorisation in Cyprus and a registered VASP in Lithuania. Full detail in our CEX.IO review.
Should I take it?
If you were going to buy crypto on a licensed exchange anyway, yes — it reduces fees you would have paid, and there is no cost to opting in. If you would be signing up, verifying and trading purely to capture a bonus you cannot withdraw, the maths does not work in your favour.
