Read this once. It is short, it is not boilerplate, and three of these points have cost readers real money when they were ignored.

No financial advice

Everything on this site is general information. It does not take account of your circumstances, your objectives, your tax position or your risk tolerance, because we know none of those things.

We do not and will not tell you which asset to buy, whether a purchase is a good idea for you, or what any price will do. We are not licensed to give investment advice in any jurisdiction and we do not attempt to. Where a decision depends on your own situation — anything to do with tax, estate planning, or amounts that matter to you — speak to a qualified professional where you live.

Cryptocurrency risk

Cryptocurrency prices are volatile. Assets can fall sharply and can fall to zero. Past performance tells you nothing about future performance. You should be prepared to lose everything you put in, and you should never put in money you cannot afford to lose.

Crypto holdings are generally not protected by deposit insurance or compensation schemes. In the US there is no FDIC coverage for crypto balances; in the UK the FSCS generally does not cover cryptoassets; under MiCA in the EU there is no deposit guarantee. A licensed platform can still fail, and licensing is not protection of your funds.

Three things that are irreversible

These are the points that have actually cost our readers money, so they get their own section rather than a clause.

Nobody can undo any of these — including us, and including the platform

  • A confirmed crypto transaction. There is no chargeback, no reversal and no central authority to appeal to. Sent to the wrong address or the wrong network, the funds are gone.
  • A delivered gift-card or voucher code. A code is a bearer instrument — whoever reads it can spend it, and no platform can prove you did not. Platforms treat delivery as consumption, so there is normally no refund.
  • A wrong-region purchase. Gift cards are locked to one country's storefront by the brand. Paying with crypto changes nothing about that. The code is valid; it simply will not work for the account you intended. See region locks.

Accuracy and timeliness

We research carefully and we will still be wrong sometimes. Fees, exchange rates, coin lists, country restrictions, promotional terms and brand availability in this market change without notice and frequently without announcement.

Every substantive page carries the month its figures were checked. That date is a statement about when we looked, not a guarantee about today.

Third parties

We link to external platforms, and we have no control over them. We do not operate them, we cannot access your account with them, and we are not responsible for their conduct, their terms, their security, their availability or their solvency.

A link is not a guarantee. It means we researched the platform and thought it worth your consideration at the time of writing. Platforms change ownership, terms, jurisdictions and security posture. Your relationship when you buy is with them, not with us.

Some outgoing links may earn us a commission, disclosed on every page and explained in our editorial policy. It does not change our ratings or the warnings we publish.

Trademarks

Brand names, logos and trademarks referenced on this site belong to their respective owners and are used for identification and descriptive purposes only. Their appearance does not imply any affiliation with, sponsorship by, endorsement from, or partnership with those companies.

Regulatory and tax information

Where we describe licensing, registration or tax treatment, we link to the primary source so you can check it yourself. Regulation in this area changes quickly — MiCA's transitional period closed on 1 July 2026, UK financial-promotion rules have been revised, and US state licensing varies by state and by activity.

Our descriptions are summaries for orientation, not legal analysis, and they are certainly not tax advice. Tax treatment depends on your jurisdiction, your residency, the amounts involved and your own circumstances. Speak to a qualified adviser.

No liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from reliance on any information on it, including losses arising from a platform's conduct, a failed or misdirected transaction, a rejected or stolen code, a wrong-region purchase, or a change in fees, terms or regulation after publication.

You use this site and act on its information at your own risk and on your own judgement.

Fraud

We publish warnings about scams throughout the site because this category attracts a great deal of fraud. Two points worth repeating here:

  • Nobody legitimate will ever ask you to buy a gift card or crypto voucher and read out the code. Not a government agency, a bank, a utility, a police force, an employer, a support line, or somebody you met online.
  • We cannot recover lost funds and neither can anybody who offers to for a fee. Recovery scams specifically target people who have already been defrauded once. Patterns in crypto gift card scams.
