The region rule first
Amazon is not one shop. Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.co.jp and the rest are operated as separate marketplaces with separate accounts, separate currencies and separate gift-card balances that cannot be transferred between them.
So a $50 USD card bought for Amazon.com is worthless to somebody who shops on Amazon.de, even if they live two streets away from someone who shops on .com. And because a delivered claim code is a bearer instrument — anybody who reads it can spend it — no platform will refund you once it has been sent.
A second, subtler trap: the currency. Platforms list Amazon cards by region and currency together — "Amazon US (USD)", "Amazon UK (GBP)", "Amazon DE (EUR)". Buying a EUR card for a marketplace that settles in a different currency will fail at redemption. Match both.

Amazon does not accept cryptocurrency at its own checkout and has never done so, so every route runs through a reseller platform.

A practical note on availability: not every platform stocks every Amazon marketplace. The US, UK and major European regions are widely available; smaller marketplaces appear inconsistently. What it costs
Amazon is the standing exception to the face-value rule. Across the market, expect a markup of up to about 2% — and understand why, because it stops you hunting for a platform that has somehow escaped it.
Most brand gift cards sell at face value on crypto platforms because the platform earns from the wholesale discount the brand granted. Amazon's reseller margin is unusually thin, so there is not enough discount to cover the platform's costs. The markup is structural, not a platform choice.

Which coin to pay with
On a $100 Amazon card the markup dominates and the rail is close to irrelevant. On a $15 card the reverse is true: a $2 on-chain Bitcoin fee is 13% on top of a 2% markup.
Practical rule: under $50, use Lightning, Litecoin or a stablecoin on a cheap network. Above $100, use whichever coin the platform prices best and check two before paying. Detail in which coin should you pay with.

Type the domain yourself. Do not follow a link from the delivery email — phishing clones of the Amazon redeem page are a persistent problem and they harvest codes in real time.

Enter the claim code exactly. Zero versus letter O and one versus lowercase L cause most rejections, so copy and paste rather than typing.

Confirm the balance appears, then delete the code
Amazon applies gift-card balance automatically to future eligible orders. Once the balance shows, the code has done its job — delete the email so it is not sitting in an inbox.
What the balance cannot do
Amazon gift-card balance limitations to know before you buy
- It does not cross marketplaces. Balance on .com is invisible on .co.uk. There is no transfer mechanism.
- Some third-party sellers are excluded. Marketplace sellers who process their own payments may not accept gift-card balance.
- Some digital services vary. Prime is usually covered; a handful of digital purchases and subscriptions behave differently by market.
- It cannot be cashed out. Amazon balance is not withdrawable to a bank or a wallet, in any market.
- Applying multiple codes is fine, but limits exist. Amazon caps how many codes can be applied in a given period — relevant if you are buying several small denominations.
- Expiry varies by market. US funds do not expire; check the terms for other marketplaces rather than assuming.

Can I convert an Amazon gift card back to crypto?
